I loved my Squirrel Shield feeder from the start. At first, I loaded only a cup or so of feed, then in a few weeks I filled it about half way up the generous tube. I began to notice piles of seed on the ground beneath it, little of it was shells. Maybe they don't like this kind? Tried another. Ditto. Then took a closer look at the feeder. The slider mechanism that closes the ports when a squirrel jumps on is about 1/2 in larger in diameter than the clear seed tube -- wide enough for birds to spill lots of seed. Like really lots. No wonder I couldn't keep it filled! It didn't have to be this diameter, it could have been made just wide enough to slide, not wide enough for cups of seed to fall through as birds pecked away. I'm now back to filling a cup at a time. This is a big dissapointment. I'll keep looking for a feeder that's less wasteful -- and less costly.
Hi Mary, thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear the feeder didn't meet your expectations. Your insights about the slider mechanism are very helpful, and we'll pass them along to our design team. We appreciate your support and hope you find a perfect feeder soon.
