General questions & safety
What is pre-made nectar?
Our pre-made nectar is naturally shelf-stable and requires no boiling. It’s quick, convenient, and ready in seconds.
Is your nectar safe for hummingbirds to drink?
Yes! Our nectar formulas are made with the simplest, most natural ingredients: pure cane sugar, water, and citric acid for pH adjustment. They contain no red dyes or artificial additives, so hummingbirds get a safe and healthy energy source.
What kind of sugar is in your nectar formula?
We use pure cane sugar, the same natural sweetener found in flower blossoms.
Choosing the right nectar
What types of nectar are there? What kind is right for me?
We offer three formulations so you can choose what works best for your feeding routine:
- Ready-to-use: Pour directly into your feeder with no prep required. Perfect for busy birders who want instant convenience.
- Liquid Concentrate: Mix with water (see product label for ratio). It offers great flexibility and stores easily.
- Powder Concentrate: The longest-lasting option. Mix with water when ready to use. It contains pure cane sugar and keeps fresh the longest before mixing.
All three formulas deliver the same quality nectar hummingbirds love. The only difference is how you like to prepare it.
How much nectar do I need?
The amount you’ll need depends on how often you refill your feeders and how many hummingbirds visit. Use our simple Nectar Estimator below:
NECTAR ESTIMATOR
Estimate to the best of your ability! We have used placeholder amounts in the calculator below. Please fill in with your own answers:
- How many weeks long is your hummingbird season? 17 weeks
- How many times per week do you refill your feeder? 2 times per week
- What is the combined total capacity of all the feeders you refill? 13 oz
Seasonal Usage: 13 × 2 × 17 = 442 oz
Compare your total with our nectar pouch sizes, which yield from 8.5 oz to 150 oz of nectar.

Product support
My hummingbirds don't seem to like the nectar. What do I do?
Hummingbirds can be selective, but a few small adjustments can make a big difference:
- Clean your feeder thoroughly every few days, making sure no soap residue remains.
- Use fresh nectar that’s stored and mixed according to the label instructions.
- Hang your feeder in partial shade and away from ants or bees.
- Add bright flowers nearby to help draw their attention.
- If they’re new to the area, be patient. It can take a few days for them to return once they find the food source.
If you’ve confirmed proper cleaning and storage and they still aren’t visiting, reach out and we’ll be happy to help troubleshoot further.
