This is a great idea. HOWEVER, soon as the bees discover it, they go right into the top were the jelly amd orange pieces are. I had to fight them off with a hose. There has to be a better way to feeder my feathered friends without running off a swarm of bees. Those guards are great but not when they just go were the jelly n oranges are. This was a birthday gift given to me and I'm quite disappointed
Hi Lori. Thank you for reaching out to Nature's Way regarding your review of the OFP1 feeder. Although bees are attracted to the same sweet foods that the orioles are, there are some methods you can employ to deter them. In addition to the bee guards, you can position your feeder in a shadier spot so it is less attractive to bees. You can also be sure to clean and rinse the feeder daily to ensure removal of any residual product. You can also check out our hummingbird blog 'Common hummingbird challenges and solutions' as some of the tips overlap with orioles. All the best.
I purchased this to attract orioles who frequent my yard. Instead, it has also become a popular stopover for my finch and red-wing blackbirds. I love how easy it is to fill and clean.
